Leadership

Guided by a partnership philosophy — thinking of shareholders as owner-partners and leadership as managing partners.

Our Management Philosophy

Although Berkshire's form is corporate, its attitude is that of a partnership. Operating decisions for the various Berkshire businesses are made by managers of the individual business units. Investment decisions and all other capital allocation decisions are made by Warren E. Buffett, in consultation with his partners.

The company's long-term economic goal is to maximize the average annual rate of gain in intrinsic business value on a per-share basis, preferring to own a diversified group of businesses that generate cash and consistently earn above-average returns on capital.
